Conjunctions connect two sentences or phrases.

Coordinating Conjunctions 並列連接詞

連接同等重要的句子或片語

Connect sentences or phrases of equal importance

Examples:

for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so

Correlative Conjunctions 關聯連接詞

Subordinating Conjunctions 從屬連接詞

連接主句和從句

Connect main clauses with dependent clauses

Examples:

because, since, as, although, though, until, while, if, whether, whereas

I was tired, but I finished my homework.

我很累，但是我完成了我的作業。

關係詞 Relative Words

關係代名詞 Relative Pronouns

關係代名詞引導關係子句，提供額外信息。

Relative pronouns introduce relative clauses that provide additional information.

Examples:

  • who (誰), whom (誰), whose (誰的)
  • which (哪個), that (那個)

The book which I bought yesterday is interesting.

我昨天買的那本書很有趣。

關係副詞 Relative Adverbs

關係副詞引導關係子句，表示時間、地點或方式。

Relative adverbs introduce relative clauses that express time, place, or manner.

Examples:

  • where (哪裡) - place/location
  • when (何時) - time
  • why (為什麼) - reason
  • how (如何) - manner

This is the restaurant where we had dinner last night.

這是我們昨晚吃晚餐的餐廳。

Usage:

  • Connects two related complete sentences
  • 替代連接詞 (and, but, or)
  • Replaces conjunctions

I love reading; books are my favorite pastime.
