What is Passive Voice?

Passive Voice: When the subject receives the action.

被動語態：當主詞是動作的接受者時使用。

Formula:

Subject + be verb + past participle + (by + agent)

主詞 + be動詞 + 過去分詞 + (by + 動作執行者)

Example:

Active: The chef cooks the meal.

Passive: The meal is cooked by the chef.

主動：廚師烹飪這頓飯。

被動：這頓飯被烹飪由廚師。

When to Use Passive Voice:

  • When the action is more important than who did it

    當動作比執行者更重要時

  • When the doer is unknown or unimportant

    當執行者未知或不重要時

  • In formal or scientific writing

    在正式或科學寫作中

  • To emphasize the receiver of the action
