What is Passive Voice?
Passive Voice: When the subject receives the action.
被動語態:當主詞是動作的接受者時使用。
Formula:
Subject + be verb + past participle + (by + agent)
主詞 + be動詞 + 過去分詞 + (by + 動作執行者)
Example:
Active: The chef cooks the meal.
Passive: The meal is cooked by the chef.
主動:廚師烹飪這頓飯。
被動:這頓飯被烹飪由廚師。
When to Use Passive Voice:
- When the action is more important than who did it
當動作比執行者更重要時
- When the doer is unknown or unimportant
當執行者未知或不重要時
- In formal or scientific writing

- To emphasize the receiver of the action
